Voicecon Highlights Shifting Industry, New VOIP Products

Along with the usual lineup of new product offerings, the buzz at the 2006's VoiceCon Fall conference on Aug. 21 will be about the changing shape of the industry, unified messaging and about securing IP Telephony applications.
With Microsoft entering the VOIP (voice over IP) space earlier in the summer of 2006 with its Unified Communications Initiative and partnership with Nortel; a new CEO at the helm of Avaya; the proposed merger of Alcatel and Lucent; and much speculation swirling about Siemens Communications Enterprise Group being acquired or merging with another company, the industry is in flux, according to VoiceCon General Manager Fred Knight. IP Phone Growth in 'Huge Spike'

The sale of IP phones went through the roof over the last year, and especially in the second quarter, with shipments growing 53 percent over the last year and 23.8 percent from the first to the second quarter, according to report just released by Synergy Research Group.
The research report, which looked at the worldwide market for enterprise IP telephony equipment, pegged growth for the entire market at 30.4 percent year-to-year and 13.7 percent from the first to the second quarter of 2006.
Worldwide revenue for enterprise IP telephony, which includes LAN telephony, pure IP telephony, the converged market and IP phones, approached $1.2 billion. "This quarter was a huge spike just in itself," said SRG co-analyst Ryan Olsen in Reno, Nev. (More )

Linksys said Thursday that it has begun shipping its WIP300 and WIP330 802.11g IP phones.
ADVERTISEMENT The WIP300 and WIP330 are available immediately through authorized Linksys distributors with estimated street prices of $219.99 and $369.99 respectively, the company said. Additional products from the Linksys family of WiFi phones will be launched in the second half of 2006.
